This Numbered Limited Edition Print, Titled "SOJO HENJO" depicts an ancient Japanese Samurai in the Winter Season. A mountain wreathed in winter clouds forms the backdrop to this old samurai who like many samurai in the winter of their years, has shaved off his top-knot and entered retirement, perhaps as a monk.
This 1980s vintage framed print is numbered 99 of only 300 made.
Beautifully Double Matted with rich linen and metallic edging in black and gold colors, this print has been professionally framed in a traditional black lacquer frame 2-1/4 inches deep.
The title SOJO HENJO is a reference to the famed Ancient Japanese Poet of the same name who is noteworthy for being one of the six poetic geniuses of his period known as the Rokkasen.
The artist, Hisashi Otsuka, was born in Japan and moved to the US in 1979 taking up residence in Hawaii. His work has become recognized worldwide as bringing modern art styles and techniques to traditional Japanese subjects in a way which appeals to both eastern and western tastes.
This is a one of a kind, vintage piece of artwork, and may have minor rubs or blemishes on the frame, but still presents a beautiful appearance and would be appropriate to be displayed among even the finest decor.
