1 dead after small plane crashes in backyard of Florida home

A small plane has crashed in a Boynton Beach community northwest of Interstate 95 and Boynton Beach Boulevard, authorities said.

It happened at about 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater.

“I can confirm we have responded to a plane that has crashed behind a home in the Dos Lagos community,” she said.

The plane was a Grumman American AA-5 with only the pilot aboard, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

“The aircraft departed from Palm Beach County Park/Lantana Airport at about 1:30 p.m. It went down in trees behind a residence,” said FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen.

The small yellow aircraft came to rest on a grassy strip of land between a canal and a backyard swimming pool in the 1500 block of Miner Road, officials said.
