An American Airlines flight on the way to Dallas from Chicago made an emergency landing in St. Louis after a passenger tried to open an exit door during the flight, officials say.

Other passengers subdued the man. and law enforcement personnel took him off the flight plane, according to St. Louis television station KMOV4. The man’s name was not released.

D.J. Mitchell, who lives in the Dallas area, was one of the passengers who confronted the man, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported.

“There was no screaming, no excitement,” Mitchell said. “[It was] a little nerve-wracking, but that’s about it.”

Another passenger told NBC5 that he noticed the man pacing in the aisle before he made a move for the exit.

“He reminded me of a mouse trying to get out of a cardboard box, and he was just going at every single lever right in front of me, on the door,” Jonathan Cowan said.

Flight 2300 resumed after the man was removed from the plane. It arrived at DFW International Airport after midnight, according to NBC5.
