Bear tries to steal entire dumpster from marijuana dispensary

A mischievous bear attempted to dumpster dive in Lyons, but was thwarted by the bear-proof container.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Northeast Region shared video on Twitter on Tuesday morning that shows a bear breaking through a fence at a marijuana dispensary in Lyons and sniffing around the dumpster.

The bear then stands on its hind legs and drags the dumpster out onto the street.

The bear is shown pushing the dumpster down the street and attempting to open it, but the container is bear-resistant and it the animal was unsuccessful. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the bear remained in the area for about an hour.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Jason Clay told the Daily Camera that the footage was captured just before midnight July 17 at The Bud Depot, 138 E Main St.

Colorado is no stranger to trash-eating animals, and bears are no exception. To prevent your dumpster from getting raided, Colorado Parks and Wildlife recommends bear-proofing.

The Daily Camera’s Mitchell Byars contributed to this report.
