A black panther pawing its way over rooftops in France was pictured perched high above the streets Wednesday before the animal was eventually put to sleep and placed in a cage.
Firefighters responded to reports of the big cat, according to the AP, and trapped the animal in a home in Armentières, France, after it slipped inside the residence.
Impressed passersby watched as the 45-pound mammal made moves on the rooftops.
“It is magnificent. It is beautiful to see in person,” one neighbor told the La Voix du Nord newspaper in French.
Ultimately, a vet tranquilized the young panther with a dart, the BBC reported.
The panther had been domesticated by an owner, who is sought by French authorities, according to the BBC. The cat was passed on to the Animal Protection League.
