Body cam video shows Florida K-9 officer chasing down suspect, goes viral

A Pasco County K9 officer went viral Wednesday after a video of him nabbing a suspect was posted to the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.

A body cam video worn by Deputy Nick Carmack shows K-9 Shep in pursuit of a suspect who fled from a traffic stop Tuesday in New Port Richey in a red Nissan Rogue with a child inside, according to a Pasco County arrest report.

Carmack attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Two suspects fled on foot, leaving behind the child, the arrest report indicated.

In the body-cam footage, Carmack is seen releasing Shep from the vehicle, who quickly apprehends James Miller, 28, by biting him.

Miller was medically cleared and arrested, according to a Pasco County press release.

The other suspect was apprehended by Deputy Rob Wilkins and K9 Knox, according to the press release.

Both suspects were charged with grand theft auto, fleeing to elude, criminal mischief and child abuse, according to the release. Additionally, Miller was also charged driving with a suspended or revoked license.

On Wednesday K9 Shep’s performance went viral on Pasco County’s Facebook page receiving nearly 1 million views and was shared 12,000 times.
