On paper, 82-year-old Willie Murphy might seem to be an easy target.
A burglar found otherwise when he broke into the home of the power-lifting grandmother.
He ended up with bruises to more than his ego and a story that is sure to entertain his cellmates.
According to CNN, Murphy was getting ready for bed Thursday night when a man pounded on the door of her home in Rochester, N.Y., and yelled for her to call an ambulance for him.
The angry man then broke into her house.
Bad move. Really bad move.
Murphy isn’t just a power-lifter. She’s an award-winning power-lifter. She holds national records in the sport. She can deadlift 225 pounds, well over twice her body weight.
So, when that guy burst through her door, Murphy said she started lifting things and throwing them at him. The kitchen table hit him first.
When the table broke, Murphy said she ripped off the metal legs and beat him with them. Then she doused his face with baby shampoo and whacked him some more with a broom.
When the police arrived, it was the burglar, not Murphy, who needed rescuing. As is turned out, he did need that ambulance after all.
