It doesn’t get more Florida than this.
A shirtless Florida man stole a police vehicle, then led cops who were trying to help him on a high speed chase, as seen on video obtained by CBS in Orlando.
The alleged thief, identified as Shane Jensen, reportedly reached speeds up to 149 miles an hour after jumping into the squad car of an a state trooper who spotted him by the side of the road and stopped to offer him medical assistance. When that trooper conferred with a department of transportation worker on what do with Jensen, the half-naked man jumped into the officer’s car and hit the gas.
Police set a road block that brought traffic to a stop in front of Jensen, which slowed him down after 10 minutes of being pursued by responding officers.
No longer able to move forward, Jensen appeared to pull the stolen stolen police cruiser onto the shoulder of the Florida turnpike and continued moving full-speed ahead until being stopped by the cop cars causing the traffic jam. He then did a U-turn and headed in the opposite direction, reaching up to nearly 150 mph before a spiked strip reportedly caused the car to skid to a stop.
Not yet ready to surrender. Jensen sprung from behind the steering wheel and ran through oncoming traffic before being apprehended in a nearby wooded area earlier this month when the incident occurred.
His motivation for joyriding the cop car is unclear.
