Haidee Janetzki’s family and friends can sleep easier knowing they won’t need to worry about a shortage of one of life’s basic necessities, according to a Reuters report.
Janetzki, who lives in Australia, thought she had placed her regular order of 48 rolls of toilet paper from her online retailer, Who Gives a Crap. Instead she mistakenly had ordered 48 boxes — a total of 2,304 rolls, reports Reuters.
The mistake can be considered timely, since ABC reports panic buying, due to the coronavirus outbreak, has produced a toilet paper shortage in Australia, and according to Reuters, major grocers are restricting purchases to one pack per person.
Janetzki failed to notice the huge credit card bill and didn’t realize the mistake until the boxes were delivered to her home. Reuters reports that Janetzki’s husband Chris said they figured out it would take their family 12 years to go through the supply.
When asked how she felt about the accidental purchase, Janetzki replied, “Gobsmacked, confused and like a bit of an idiot,” quotes Reuters.
Rather than hoard it all, the Janetzki’s have decided to sell some boxes in a fundraiser, “at the same price at which they bought them,” reports Reuters.
Reuters asked how she felt about Australia’s toilet paper demand. Janetzki’s reply — “I’m relieved my friends and family don’t have to worry about it.”
