Clearwater — The scooter wouldn’t start, so, police say, Raymond Millwater asked an officer for a screwdriver.

Turns out, it wasn’t the best idea.

According to Clearwater Police, Millwater, 30, of Largo, was seen pushing a 2013 Honda scooter across Coronado Drive on Clearwater Beach around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. The scooter, police said, did not belong to him.

A witness saw Millwater pushing the scooter and notified police. According to Millwater’s arrest report, an officer approached him and he asked the officer for a screwdriver to start the scooter. He also said he did not know the owner.

Police contacted the owner, who said they didn’t know Millwater.

Millwater was arrested and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle. He is being held in Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

According to jail records, Millwater has at least four other grand theft charges on his record, along with a host of drug and weapons charges.
