Richard Golden was siting in the living room when he heard someone break his sliding glass door. It was a man armed with a rifle that demanded money and the victim managed to subdue with a surprise tactic: gouging his fingers into his eyes.
It happened last Friday on Northside, Jacksonville in northern Florida.
Before Golden could attack against the alleged thief, identified as Timothy Hinson, he was hit in the head with the gun, reported Nes4Jax.
“He hit me in the head with a rifle and at the exact time a buddy of mine happened to come up and distract him. When he distracted him I made my move. I grabbed him and locked the gun in,” Golden said.
Then he put him in a headlock and stuck his fingers in his eyes as far as he could.
“I dropped the clip because I have some military training and then there was still one in the chamber. It went off. I knew I wasn’t dead. Then military training took over and I gouged him in his eyes until I felt his brain,” explained Golden.
“I sat on him and gouged him in his eyes until the cops got here.” He said. “I was beating him with his own gun until the police got here.”
He said that he isn’t sure why he was the intended target of the robbery being that he had never met the suspect in his life.
Golden has minor injuries from the fight and his dog escaped because the gate to his home was left open during the incident.
Hinson was treated for his injuries and arrested. He remains in jail with a $250,000 bail until his next court appearance scheduled for July 30th according to police.
