Florida police officer plays piano to assist elderly man and his daughter goes viral

A Pembroke Pines policeman showed himself to be a real-life “officer and a gentleman” when he used his piano skills to rescue the day.

Identified only as Officer Hernandez, he became an instant social media hit when the police station shared a Facebook video of him playing “Don’t Stop Believin” and “Eye of the Tiger” to calm an elderly man who injured himself during a fall and his distraught daughter as firefighters helped.

Hernandez told a local news outlet that he’s played instruments before to ease nerves during non life-threatening calls. He has played the piano since he was 6 years old.

“I have done it a few times. It usually cheers people up,” Hernandez told Local10.com news.

The video collected almost 4,000 views and was shared 47 times less than 24 hours after it was posted the morning of Nov. 4. Most of the commenters heaped praise on officer Hernandez for showing his humanity during a moment of distress.
