Nelson’s son Jack can be seen on the video jumping back as the shark breaches the water’s surface.
Captain Marc Costa said in a text message that the shark made contact with the boat after taking the bass that was just caught on their fishing line.
This was “a real life episode of shark week today in Cape Cod Bay,” the company wrote on their Instagram page after sharing a video of the encounter.
Costa said they were out about three miles west of Great Island in Wellfleet when the shark incident occurred around 1 p.m. “It just left everyone in awe,” Costa said.
The conservancy stated through it’s Twitter account, that sighting in the bay are not rare and research has expanded into the bay this season.
