It was a class act.
John Oliver Zippay, a 6-year-old boy from Ohio, got a standing ovation from his school Wednesday after beating leukemia. Warning: the video is very heartwarming.
John Oliver was first diagnosed with leukemia back in November 2016 and had been undergoing chemotherapy for three years, Cleveland FOX affiliate WJW reported. He completed his final chemo treatment on Dec. 27, and St. Helen Catholic School in Newbury, about 35 miles east of Cleveland, welcomed him back from winter break like a king. Following the standing ovation, the school held an assembly that included a video montage of John Oliver’s fight.
John Oliver had been unable to participate in physical activities in school because of a medical port in his chest, his parents, John and Megan Zippay, told WJW. But his schoolwork never suffered while he battling cancer.
“You want that for your child, to grow up and get dirty and play outside and have fun and we kept him in a bubble so we’re excited,” Megan Zippay told WJW. “Looking forward to the future and having our little boy back.”
