His “ride or die” died — and he kept on riding.
Police said Rodney Puckett, 70, of Oklahoma did not let his wife’s death stop him from continuing with their multi-state road trip as he strapped her body into his car’s passenger seat and kept driving.
The body was discovered during a traffic stop Monday on Interstate 10 in Eloy, Ariz. The woman, later identified as 74-year-old Linda Puckett, was “sitting in the passenger seat” when a detective approached the car, according to a news release by the Eloy Police Department.
The driver told police she died at a hotel in Texas, so he moved her body into the car and continued toward their destination, though it was not immediately clear where that would be.
The woman’s body was taken to a medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.
Rodney Puckett was charged with abandonment or concealment of a body and was taken to Pinal County Jail.
Police said additional charges “may be filed” as the investigation continues. The department is working with authorities in Texas to investigate if the woman was killed.
