Man faked heart attack to help accomplice rob store

Malden police are asking for the public’s help identifying two men who robbed a store after one of them allegedly faked a heart attack.

Officers responded to a business on Broadway Sunday for a report of a theft. Upon arrival, officers were told that the suspects — two white men — entered the store together. Witnesses told police that one of the men approached the counter and allegedly faked a heart attack while the second man jumped over the counter and stole cash from the register.

Both men ran from the scene, police said.

The department posted surveillance footage of the crime and asked anyone who recognizes the men to contact detectives.

“We would like to make sure they’re both held accountable for their actions, and also to make sure his ‘heart problems’ have been taken care of by a medical professional,” Malden police wrote on Facebook.

Authorities said one of the men, seen wearing a knit hit, left the hat behind as he fled.

“I’m sure if the publics help doesn’t lead to your identity, the hat you left behind likely will,” police wrote.
