As Kevin Przytula went down on knee to propose to his girlfriend of one year, toddler Owen Anter was preparing to make a scene of his own.
Allyssa Anter got a huge surprise on Saturday, May 12, when Przytula popped the big question. She said yes. The couple got an even bigger surprise when they found 33-year-old Owen practicing something his parents had been urging for the past month — potty training.
Przytula’s 11-year-old daughter Kayleigh Przytula caught the genuine moment on video. While the couple was sealing the deal with a kiss in front of Bay City’s Ring of Friendship sculpture in Wenonah Park, Owen was taking care of his own business as he excitedly dropped his pants and urinated.
“He stole the show, for sure,” Anter said.
Anter said this wasn’t the first time Owen has urinated in public.
“He pees outside at home sometimes in the yard, and we went and got ice cream the other day and he did it in the parking lot there,” Anter said. “He just does it without telling anybody, he just pulls his pants down and goes.”
Anter said Owen has been potty-training for at least a month, but they’re still trying to teach him that he can’t do it in public places.
While the parents are still trying to teach Owen the proper way to use the bathroom, Przytula attests that surprises like Owen’s are kind of the theme of their relationship.
“That’s kind our life story, that video is our life story, for sure,” Przytula said.
Anter, 27, is studying sociology at Saginaw Valley State University and Przytula, 33, does disaster recovery nationwide.
The lovebirds met through Facebook. Przytula saw the two had mutual friends and sent a friend request to Anter, she accepted it and he replied with a message that read “thanks for the add,” the rest is history.
Since the video was posted to Facebook on Saturday, it garnered over 56,000 views.
The video was taken down from Facebook after someone complained, so the couple blurred the boy’s bottom and posted it to YouTube, Przytula said.
