Oprah Winfrey announced Thursday on social media, that she is donating $1 million to America’s Food Fund to support those facing food insecurity. The pledge is part of an overall $10 million donation to help Americans during the coronavirus pandemic.
The announcement was made in a conversation over FaceTime with Chef José Andrés, founder of World Central Kitchen and Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America.
America’s Food Fund was launched by Leonardo Dicaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs and Apple, and is also backed by the Ford Foundation.
“I believe that America’s Food Fund will be a powerful way to make a difference for our neighbors in need,” Oprah said. Donations will go towards the World Central Kitchen and Feeding America nonprofit organizations.
“I am donating $10 million overall to help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in areas where I grew up,” added Oprah.
