An unhinged panhandler bashed a subway rider’s head in with a metal pipe after they got into an argument, cops said Sunday.
The two men got into a dispute that turned physical on a southbound 2 train near the Chambers St. station Saturday around 11:15 p.m., police said.
In video footage taken by a witness, the attacker — wearing a blue Everlast tank top, Adidas track pants and a backwards hat — gets up from his seat beside the victim, screaming, waving his hand and jabbing his finger in the man’s face, before winding up to slug him.
The victim, 59, suffered a fractured skull and a broken eye socket. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was in critical condition, cops said.
After the attack, video footage shows the pipe attacker walk away from his victim, carting off what appears to be a box of baby diapers. He fled the train at the Chambers St. station.
Before the fight, the pipe-wielding menace, believed to be in his 20s, was panhandling in the train car, cops said.
Police do not know what caused the dispute.
