A man that tried to flee the scene after a hit and run in Riverside County, California inspired police to leave the community with the important message to leave your car at home when going out to celebrate.

The California Highway Patrol posted this picture to their Facebook page with the following message:

“The driver of this vehicle was extremely intoxicated & had just fled from a hit & run traffic collision. In his attempt to escape & flee he was a little too far from the gate keypad. As he leaned over, due to his intoxicated state, he fell out of the window, getting his foot caught in the steering wheel. Due to the confined space he was unable to help himself. Don’t worry he was uninjured & was assisted by @cathedral_city_police officers and was taken to jail for DUI & Hit & Run!…”

The Cathedral City fire department were called out to cut the man’s foot out of the steering wheel and he was arrested.
