Police department’s therapy dog caught stealing Christmas gifts donated for charity

The Franklin Police Department encountered a thief in their own station Wednesday afternoon, stealing toys designated for a Christmas charity drive.

Luckily for all of us, they caught it on camera.

The department posted a video of therapy dog Ben Franklin snatching toys destined for the Santa Foundation and trotting around the building with them.

“When you have a classroom full of toys ready to be shipped off to the Santa Foundation, you should… 1. Close the door to the classroom or 2. Keep the toys elevated,” the department wrote in a Facebook post. “If not, a golden retriever will slowly hoard them throughout the day and bring them back to his lair.”

Over the past few weeks, Franklin police have been collecting toys for children and teenagers who might not otherwise receive anything for the holidays.

The gifts were apparently irresistible to Ben Franklin, a 1-year-old golden retriever who assists in the schools, senior center and at other community events.

Typically behavior like this gets you placed on the naughty list, but after seeing the video, Santa will probably make an exception.
