ALCONA COUNTY, Mich. — A state police sergeant rescued a 2-year-old girl who nearly ran into the road as a dump truck passed.
Sgt. Joseph Richards grabbed the girl as the dump truck, its brakes locked, passed by.
“If not for Sgt. Richards’ quick action, this incident would have ended in tragedy,” state police said in a statement.
The incident happened Friday, May 24, in Alcona County, and was captured on an in-car dash camera.
Richards was on patrol when he noticed that the child had wandered across a busy road. As he approached the girl, she turned back toward the road. Richards got out of his patrol car and quickly grabbed the girl as the driver of the dump truck locked its brakes.
The mother of the girl shows up moments later. She told police she lost track of the girl just seconds earlier.
“This your child?” Richards asked.
“Oh my God, yeah,” she said.
The girl was not hurt. She was returned to her mother.
