The Ring doorbell video is achingly familiar: its wide-angle lens shows someone walking up to the doorstep, picking up a package and then trotting away across a front yard.
What happened after that wasn’t so familiar, according to Boynton Beach police.
“Shout-out to the Amazon Prime delivery driver who called 911 after she saw a girl running down the street with a package that had just been delivered,” police said in a Facebook posting Monday.
After grabbing the package on Saturday, the person seen on the surveillance camera dropped it in some nearby bushes on Southwest Eighth Avenue.
The unidentified Amazon driver saw all this and brought the package back to where it had been snatched, police said.
The driver told police she had noticed that her truck that day was being followed by at least two people — one male and one female — who were riding bicycles.
The female who grabbed the package from the porch was, at the time, wearing a light-colored shirt, bluejeans, a red head scarf and headphones.
Investigators ask anyone with information about this incident to contact the Boynton Beach Police Department at 561-732-8116 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 800-458-8477.
Additionally, police say there are ways to make sure your delivered packages aren’t stolen:
Consider having it delivered to your community’s management office or your place of business;
Require a signature for delivery;
Schedule delivery (if possible) for when someone’s home;
Invest in doorbell/home video surveillance system.
