Priest hits the dance floor with cheerleaders for dance routine at pep rally

It’s a packed high school gymnasium. The place is rocking as rows of cheerleaders do a spirited dance while waving their colorful pom poms in advance of the big game.

Uh oh. Here comes the priest — in his long black garb — ready to throw cold water on this organized mayhem? No way.

In a video that has gone viral since Cardinal Gibbons High School posted it on Facebook and Twitter, cheerleaders and the dance team from the Catholic Fort Lauderdale school are seen dancing at a homecoming pep rally when Father Ricardo D. Rivera enters the shot, stops the dance momentarily and then joins with an explosion of energy and expertly choreographed rhythm.

At the end of the performance, the audience of mostly students and staff erupted in cheers. Rivera could only stand still for a second before breaking his pose, laughing.

The video has had more than 14,000 views on Twitter and over 64,000 views on Facebook.

“Watch until the end for a special surprise,” the school wrote in the caption of the Facebook post, writing in their tweet, “There’s nothing like a #Gibbons pep rally! #DancingPriest.”

The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs would go on to beat their rivals visiting from Sunrise, Piper High School, Friday in their homecoming game, 46-7.
