A thief’s getaway was thwarted after he stole a set of headphones from a convenience store Wednesday because he had locked his keys in his car, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.
When deputies arrived to Love’s Travel Stop in Davenport, they saw the man still trying to get into his car, they said.
Deputies did not identify the suspect, whom they said confessed “Yes, I am sorry,” when asked if he’d stolen anything.
The headphones were valued at $65.
Marijuana and scales were later found in the man’s car, the sheriff’s office said.
In what has become a tradition, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office used social media to mock the alleged criminal, sprinkling its news release with phrases such as “epic face palm,” “sad trombone music” and “criminal dreams are crushed,” and referring to the marijuana as “wacky-weed.”
The sheriff’s office’s Facebook post snark was rewarded with several congratulatory comments and nearly 150 post shares within the first two hours.
