A soldier was able to stop burglars from thousands of miles away with the help of a doorbell camera.

Richard Wharton, who is stationed in Iraq, told police that he got an alert on his phone around lunch — or 2:30 a.m. in Park Ridge, Illinois. His camera had spied two men trying to break into his garage, according to WGN9.

“He saw it and watched it and communicated great with us and called us right away,” Tom Gadomski, from the Park Ridge Police Department, told the station. “We had officers right in the area and found the offenders and took them into custody.”

Wharton reportedly saw the thieves walking off with power tools and other items from his garage.

Police were able to track them down in the area.

Andres Gutierrez, 23, and Brandon Shaw, 24, were each charged with three counts of burglary.
