His Instagram profile calls him “a kinder, gentler Labrador — making my forever home at Walker’s Point.” But Sully H.W. Bush has taken his final laps at the Bush Estate following the death of his owner, the 41st president of the United States.

A heartbreaking photo was posted on the dog’s social media account Sunday night showing him sleeping in front of the flag-draped casket of his late master, George H.W. Bush.

The 2-year-old yellow Labrador will reportedly accompany Bush’s casket on the flight to Washington D.C. later today, CNN and other media outlets reported.

According to America’s VetDogs.org, the specially-trained service dog was specifically matched to provide support and companionship to the late President Bush in his daily activities. He was recommended to Bush through VetDog’s relationship with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

VetDogs says Sully is named after former airline pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III, who is known for landing a damaged passenger jet on the Hudson River in 2009.

More about Sully, according to VetDogs: — He was trained through the prison puppy program, in which inmates raise future service dogs until the dog is about 15 months old. — He learned standardized commands and the three foundations of service dog tasks: retrieve, tug, and push. — Specific tasks necessary for his match with the late president were fine-tuned and refined at the VetDog’s Smithtown, New York campus. Some of those tasks include retrieving items as small as a credit card to objects as large as a support cane, as well as opening and closing doors, getting help or pushing an emergency button, and bracing and supporting a handler when standing or walking up and down stairs. — Sully was placed with 41st president in late June.
Sully will now reportedly go to work at his new home, Walter Reed, where he will be assisting the troops.

“As much as our family is going to miss this dog, we’re comforted to know he’ll bring the same joy to his new home, Walter Reed, that be brought to 41,” 43rd President George W. Bush wrote in an Instagram post late Sunday.
