Teacher arrested after asking question about salary during board meeting

A Louisiana school teacher was arrested at a school board meeting for asking a simple question — now the school board president is trying to explain why. “If a teacher has the authority to send a student who is acting up in the classroom that she can’t control out of the classroom to the principal’s office, under our policy, we have the same rules.” Vermillion Parish School Board President Anthony Fontana stated on KOATC. “We have certain rules — a three-minute speech etc, it’s got to be civilized, it can’t get off-target, it’s got to be related to the issue before the board…” Deyisha Hargrave asked why the superintendent got a 28% raise while teachers haven’t had a raise in years. “We’re doing the work. At the top, that’s not where kids learn. It’s in the classrooms. And those teachers, like myself, are not getting a dime. How are you going to take that money? Because it’s basically taking out of the pockets of teachers.” “The superintendent Jerome Puyau has attempted to defend himself as he receives death threats over the incident: “We’ve worked very hard, and honestly, I feel that, through all that hard work, the results are there. The pay raise, or making my salary comparable, is justified.”
