A Springfield woman is accused of attacking two women after a dog ate her marijuana and the owner refused to pay for it, according to a Springfield police report.

Desarae Smith, 20, was arrested on two counts of assault Monday night, according to the police report.

Springfield police began their investigation at around 7 p.m. when they were called to a home on the 800 block of East High Street in Springfield, the report says. They spoke with a woman who told officers that Smith refused to leave the woman’s home because one of her dogs ate marijuana belonging to Smith and the woman refused to pay the drugs, according to the report.

“(The woman) advised she got into a verbal argument with Desarae Smith over marijuana,” the report says. “(The woman) stated she lives with 22 dogs and one of them ate Ms. Smith’s marijuana.”

Officers found Smith sleeping on the woman’s couch, according to the report, and woke her up to ask her to leave.

“Ms. Smith began screaming about the money (the woman) owed her for the marijuana and refused to leave,” the report says. “Officers advised Ms. Smith to calm down and asked her to leave the home.”

Smith began to gather her belongings and stormed out of the house cursing and screaming, the report says. It was there Smith allegedly started an argument with two women outside, the report says, and in front of officers, assaulted the two.

“Ms. Smith dropped her items and charged at (one woman),” the report says. “Ms. Smith grabbed (her) hair and began punching and kicking her in the head and body.”
She also hit the other woman, the report says.

“Ms. Smith then grabbed (the other woman) and began punching and kicking her in the head and body,” the report says.

Officers were able to pull Smith away, the report says, and place her under arrest. The women who were allegedly attacked did not have visible signs of injuries at the time, the report says, and refused medical treatment.

Smith’s bond was set at $1,000 for each assault charge, according to jail records. She was also booked in with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct charges, according to the records, and the bonds for those charges were set at $250 each.
